Sequence centrifugal pumps are designed and built to meet the special needs of ponds, waterscapes and aquaculture. Pond enthusiasts across the country have been asking for this pump. Anyone looking for a dependable, efficient, continuous-duty pump that can provide a flooded suction (they are not self priming) will be impressed with these pumps. These pumps are very cost effective to operate. Our founder has had one of these Sequence in his 10,000-gallon pond since 1996 and is still very happy with its performance.

Sequence Pumps
Sequence Pumps are VERY energy efficient Sequence Pumps are VERY energy efficient
These pumps feature:
  • Cost Saving Efficiency - Sequence pumps produce a maximum flow rate with minimal electrical consumption when compared to "cheaper" units. The dollars saved from reduced operation can pay for the pump in a matter of months. Compare the watts used vs. the GPH ratings on these pumps as opposed to other brands. These pumps are truly amazing. Your energy costs savings continues over the life of the product.
  • Reliability - Sequence pumps are built rugged. The pump housings are injection-molded of NORYL®, and are mounted to custom built, totally enclosed, fan cooled motors. This unbeatable combination meets the most severe industrial standards, even the demands of chemical plants where the product is widely used. Each unit is fully bench-tested prior to shipment. When properly installed, your pump will provide years of dependable, trouble free service.
  • Quiet Operation - Sequence pumps installed near areas of relaxation and entertainment generate minimal noise levels.
  • Safety - Sequence pumps are end suction centrifugal units, designed to be placed outside the pond. This means no disturbance to the water during any required pump maintenance, no dangerous electrical situations and no devastating "oil slicks".
  • Versatility - Sequence pumps can serve a variety of water application needs. In large water systems (i.e. over 12,000 gal.) use two or more Sequence pumps in parallel to multiply the flow.
  • Economy - Sequence pumps offer the best value. Long-term operating costs of your pump will exceed the initial purchase price. When considering the initial price, operating costs and service costs, you will find a Sequence pump is your best value. Long term, the best costs less.

Sequence Pump Installation Hints

  • Locate the pump as close to the source as possible. It is best to have your main (longest) run of pipe on the discharge side of the pump.
  • Install the pump outside the pond, and below the level of the surface of the pond (flooded suction). This will help insure a proper supply of water to the pump. Remember, a pump can't pump out water if there isn't any available. Even if your supply line comes up and over the top of the pond wall, it will still offer a flooded suction if it has no breaks to atmosphere before it goes back down below the surface level and if all air is removed.
    Sequence hints Sequence hints
  • If it is not possible to provide a flooded suction installation then:
    • Position the pump as low as possible, and as near the source as possible.
    • Install a priming pot on the inlet of the pump.
    • Install a foot valve, or a swing check valve in the inlet line below the water level.
    • Always prime the entire inlet line, priming pot, and pump before turning it on.

    Sequence installation hints
  • Always have your inlet pipe diameter equal to or larger than the discharge line.
  • Minimize friction losses by using larger diameter pipe. Determine the approximate flow rate you want and the approximate total length of your pipe. Consult a friction loss chart to choose the proper diameter pipe. (The size of the pumps suction and discharge ports does not dictate your proper size.) Choose a pipe diameter that keeps your friction loss below about 6 feet per 100 feet of pipe. The longer your run of pipe, the more critical it is to minimize your friction loss. Normally, a minimum of 2" line is suggested for systems with flow rates from 30 to 60 GPM.
  • Use a filtration system that does not require a lot of pressure. It costs money to create pressure (You need a bigger pump to overcome the pressure loss - bigger pump = more electricity needed). Biological filters work well and require very little pressure. It is extremely important to make sure the water supplied to the pump is FREE of debris.
  • Never allow a horizontal centrifugal pump and motor unit to become submerged. If this ever accidentally occurs, shut the unit down, disconnect it, and have a reputable service shop examine the motor before using it.
  • Never run a pump dry. This will damage the seal and impeller. They are designed to pump fluid, not air. Insure the pump is full of water before you turn it on, and that it doesn't out-pump the supply. It is extremely important that the water supplied to the pump is FREE of debris.
  • Cover the pump and motor unit with a suitable shelter. When protected from rain and dust, the motor will last much longer. The covering should still allow the unit to have suitable air recirculation for proper cooling.
  • If your pump is producing too much flow, you can reduce the flow by partially closing a valve on the discharge line (never restrict the inlet). Always allow a couple of gallons per minute to flow to prevent over heating.
  • If more flow is required than a single pump can produce, use two or more pumps in parallel. This also offers the benefits of being able to vary the flow rates, insure partial flow if one unit needs servicing, and can often save a substantial amount of electricity compared to using one very large pump.
  • Choose a pump that can give you the required flows at the lowest possible amp draw. Since many pumps will be operating continuously, the amp draw and its effect on your monthly utility bill can be very significant.
  • Check to be sure the motors electrical connections are set up to match the supply voltage.
  • Install shut off valves before and after the pump, so you can easily remove it from the line without having to drain your system.

PlumbingStore.com - FAQS

bolt the pump down?"Is it necessary to bolt the pump down? Do I need to install an anti-vibration mounting system?"
it's a good ideaThe installation instructions (comes with the pump) state: "Mount motor base to a secure, immobile foundation." Our founder has had a Sequence pump in operation for a number of years without his pump being secure. He simply has it sitting on a few blocks. Make sure to have the body grounded properly. You absolutely do not need to use any anti vibration products. This pump is the best and we have never seen or heard of any Sequence pumps that create vibration. It has a commercial rated top quality motor.

can I restrict the flow?"Can I restrict the flow of the pump if it produces more flow than I'd like?"
yes on the outletYes. You must restrict the outlet side (the discharge side) of the pump. Do not restrict the input side.

protection?"Can the Sequence pump stand out in the rain and elements?"
cover the pumpCover the pump and motor unit with a suitable shelter. When protected from rain and dust the motor will last much longer. The covering should still allow the unit to have suitable air recirculation for proper cooling.

complaints?"Have you had any complaints about the Sequence pumps?"
sequence is greatWe must admit that until we started emphasizing that you need a lot of water for the inlet we had a few complaints that the Sequence pump wasn't producing the volume that the manufacturer claims. Once we tell the customer to read what we are writing here...that is...have a good source of inlet water...we get replies with 'thanks, that fixed it.' Sequence pumps deliver an amazing volume of water for the horsepower rating but you need to have adequate piping to the pump. By using a large size pipe you will generally get a lot more water being pumped.

anything I should know?"In my design of how and where I am going to install my new Sequence pump, is there anything else that I should know or think about?"
Sequence pumps are greatBesides making sure the pump always has plenty of water to it, it is a good idea to make sure that in your design/plans/installation that the impeller cannot travel in reverse. This can happen when the water, in a long length of pipe (uphill, after the pump), stops being pumped (as when the pump is turned off), and then is able to travel backwards. This creates a reversal of flow through the pump and could damage it. To prevent this, we recommend that you install a swing check valve in-line.

how quiet?"You write that the Sequence pump is quiet. Can I hear it run?"
somewhat quietBy "quiet" we mean relative to pumps of these sizes. All pumps of this size produce noise and Sequence does also. Consider that the smallest of these can pump a LOT of water and that means sounds will be heard. Making sure there are no restrictions and that there is plenty of water source without air in the lines will make the pump run a lot quieter. For a pump that can produce as much as these do, the Sequence pumps are "relatively" quiet.

drain plug?"Do the Sequence pumps have drain plugs so that I can drain it in the winter?"
yes, quality SequenceYes. At the bottom is a non-tapered drain plug that you can unscrew and the water will empty out of the pump. Note that an o-ring makes the seal; please do not put PTFE tape, pipe dope, or anything else on it. It seals very well with the o-ring provided.

type of pipe?"Do you recommend rigid or flexible couplings between the pump and piping?"
flex PVCPVC fittings must be used to thread into the pump. What type of couplings or fittings after that is up to you and not that important. We do like flexible schedule 40 PVC (aka "spa flex") for piping to and from the pump; as you can smoothly bend around almost anything with it. It is very durable, but almost any quality piping product (PVC etc.) will work.

why buy it from us?"Ok, I'm convinced that the Sequence brand is a top quality pump. Why should I buy it from you folks?"
reputabilityBecause we sell so many other products and our reputation is impeccable, and because we sell to so many places, you can be assured that we will be here tomorrow. The Sequence pumps are a great example of value over price. You will save in the long run. Right now we are offering a FREE pot strainer as we wish total customer satisfaction of this fantastic, energy saving pump (protecting the pump from large particles is a must). If you live outside of California we don't need to charge you sales tax.

shut off?"What does shut off at 21' mean?"
won't pumpIt means that the pump cannot pump higher (measured vertically) than 20' 11" (with no friction loss taken into account). If you need a pump to pump higher than 19', we probably would recommend that you purchase a different pump.

drain plug?"I see that the pumps are listed 115/230. Does this mean that when I order a pump with a cord that it can be plugged into either voltage?"
yes, quality Sequence If you order a pump with a cord then you pick the appropriate voltage and that cord can be plugged into that particular voltage. If you order the pump without a cord then the pump is dual voltage.

suck air?"I need to add a pond skimmer to my pond. The skimmer may suck a small amount of air since it floats on the surface. Is this ok?"
SequenceAir must not (meaning "never") enter into the intake (inlet) of a Sequence pump at all.

quality?"Any other reasons to buy a Sequence pump?"
qualityEvery Sequence pump is run and tested after the manufacturing process. We are not aware of any pump (costing less than $2,000.) manufacturer that does this. This is just one example of why the initial investment is more than a "cheap" pump. With Sequence you get your money's worth and then some. You will save a lot of money in the long run on energy bills compared to energy-wasting pond pumps. If you want the best, Sequence is for you.
